About Sophia

What is Chiropractic?

"Chiropractors are healthcare professionals that focus on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system" (muscles, bones, joints, ligaments, tendons). (World Federation of Chiropractors, 2001)

Chiropractors can use a range of techniques to reduce pain, improve function and increase mobility. Including hands-on safe, gentle and specific manipulation or mobilisation of the spine and other areas of the body that are not moving properly.

As well as manual treatment, chiropractors are able to offer a package of care which includes advice on posture, self-help, including heat and ice, as well as therapeutic exercises and lifestyle changes.

First Visit

On your first visit to see Sophia it can take up to an hour.

When you see Sophia for the first time, she will take a detailed assessment of your health. This includes information about your current condition and also about your medical history and overall health. Sophia will perform a physical examination and this with the information gained will help determine whether chiropractic care is appropriate for you.

If Sophia is unable to help you or if she decides that some other treatment would be more beneficial for your condition; you will be referred to your GP or to another health care professional.

First Visit

Pregnancy and Babies

Pregnant ladies visit due to a range of symptoms including lower back, pelvic, neck, leg and chest pain.

Sophia has had additional training attending post-graduate chiropractic courses for treating pregnant ladies, infants and children.
Very gentle and specific techniques are used to help to reduce pain and discomfort during pregnancy and can also encourage an easier delivery. Sophia can provide a high level of care throughout pregnancy and always offers aftercare once your baby has arrived.

Treatment for babies and children consists of very gentle spinal, cranial and visceral paediatric techniques. Sophia will always explain the treatment process to you and talk through your child’s treatment plan.
The pressure used when treating babies is very little- the amount you can handle on your eyeball.
